In a joint meeting of disengaged and retained staffers of the Imo State owned Hotel, Concorde Hotel & Casino the Workers have issued a 7-day ultimatum to the new owners (concessionaire) ABM Global to pay up the remaining part of the pay off agreement to the disengaged staff.
According to the pay-off agreement signed by the Chief of Staff to the Governor of Imo State, Sir Jude Ejiogu the government agreed to pay the total sum of 445,444,825.95 but only 253,668,319.44 was paid in the first installment.
The workers in a meeting held on 11/11/13 agreed to go back to work if their demands were not met within 7 days but were alleging that the government used the first installment to send them out of their jobs with no plans to complete the remaining 50% pay off grant.
However, the retained staffers, are asking for outright stop on the violation of the Workers Union activities by the new management and immediate remittance of Union money deducted from workers salaries including 5 month arrears of service change, 3 months unpaid salaries and other demands.
The workers are also demanding the immediate issuance of appointment letters to the workers by ABM Global to State clearly the term of service and workers welfare. The retain staff a letter dated 5/11/13 addressed to the management of the Hotel.
However, the workers disclosed that they do not accept the contract agreement issued to some staff after they received the letter requesting for their Appointment Letters.
It would be recalled that the Imo Concorde Hotel was leased out to a private company, ABM Global on the 1st of August, 2013. The company agreed to lay some workers off (about 295 workers) and retain others and reached an agreement with all workers union in the state to pay the disengaged workers off adequately and completely.
