Ahead of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, call off of its 4 months long strike any moment from today, the Vice Chancellor of IMSU and immediate past president of the body, Prof Ukachukwu Awuzie may face sanction from the National body for violating its rules.
The indication which is coming at the heels of the death of one of its past president in an auto crash along Lokoja Abuja road on Tuesday, Comrade Professor Festus Iyayi.
Professor Ukachukwu`s offence is for holding the position of acting Vice Chancellor of a university for the past eleven month contrary to ASUU rules.
ASUU Constitution stipulates that none of its members should hold the acting V/C position for more than six months or rather put that government should not appoint any V/C on acting capacity for more than six months.
This, Prof Awuzie religiously fought against during his tenure as ASUU president.
Fortunately, Prof Awuzie had since finished his first six months tenure as acting V/C which was renewed again by Imo government to end this December, 2013.
Worried by this development, Trumpeta gathered authoritatively that the National body viewed the continued stay in office by Prof Awuzie as negative to the ideals and aspiration of ASUU and therefore should either be compelled to resign or face severe sanction from the union.
