The Imo State Chapter of the new merger party, All Progressive Congress (APC) in a meeting over the weekend revealed that Gov Rochas Okorocha is leading APGA concessional members whom it simply referred to as “APGA Rebels” to hijack the APC at state, LGA and Ward levels without the consent of the true owners of the party.
While constituting a 9-man Interim State Officers led by Mazi Nath Iwuagwu as State Interim Chairman, with a mandate to constitute LGA and Ward Executive, the party averred that under the provisions of the Electoral Act on merger of political parties, only the members of the merger parties (ACN, CPC, ANPP and DPP) are the legal and authentic members of APC for now. It also stated that no fresh registration has taken place in APC, or could legally have taken place in the APC Imo State, or elsewhere in the country since 31st August, 2013.
Sequel to this, every other member (intending members) of the party is a concessional member, and must await regularization by formally registering with the party at his/her respective ward in the state before recognition in the LG and state.
Addressing the meeting, Chief Mike Ahamba (SAN) said that the party graciously opened their arms for the intending members from APGA but to their utmost dismay, the APGA rebels were bent on disorganizaing and destroying the party in Imo state by trying to hijack the leadership of the party without proper registration. In his words “My brothers, a visitor that is asking for the slot of the master bedroom should be dreaded because he does not mean well”, Ahamba added.
However, members and supporters were enjoined to ignore what they described as the over zealous and confused actions of the concessional members (APGA Rebels) and remain committed and loyal to the party, APC, as the party National Headquarters will soon resolve all membership issue amicably under section 84(4) & 5 of the electoral Act 2010.
