The National Council for Women Societies (NCWS) Ideato North Chapter, Imo state has solicited for fifty percent concession of appointment to women for both elective and political offices in the country.
This was disclosed by the NCWS National President Hon Chief (Mrs.) Nkechi Okemili Mba during the Ideato North Chapter of Imo state award and empowerment ceremony held last weekend in Akokwa town hall. She noted that President (Dr). Goodluck Jonathan administration has encouraged the participation of women holding elective and top public positions, and hoped that all Nigerian women will support each other in order to attain the desired 50% concession of appointments to women come 2015.
Hon Chief Mrs. Okemili Mba enumerated the efforts of the First Lady, Dim Patience Jonathan in her quest to better the lives of Nigeria Women, and urged them to support the Jonathan led administration.
In her remarks, the state President of NCWS, Mrs. Lois Osueke (JP) while receiving her award, dedicated the award to the less privileged and vulnerable people in Imo state. Mrs. Lois Osueke enjoined Nigerian women to come together under the umbrella of NCWS as it is for all women and women groups in Nigeria which have aided women to rise politically.
The PDP Chairman of Ideato North LGA, Arch. Leo Okwudili Munonye, President Goodluck Jonathan and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are in support towards women participation in elective positions, noting that the 13% allocated to them by the President have not yet been fully utilized as he advised the Nigerian women to take full advantage of the opportunity given to them.
In her welcome address, the President of Ideato Chapter of NCWS, Hon Dr. Obianuju Ihejigwa gave a brief history of NCWS as she accounted for her stewardship since becoming the Ideato North Chapter President of NCWS, she pointed-out that the organization is poised to restoring the dignity of woman-hood in Nigeria as she advocated for proper dress-code for all female folks.
She said the event was also an opportunity to recognize good ambassadors of the NCWS.
In their separate remarks, Chief Emeka Diwe and Dr. Anthony Ihedoro who represented Capt. Emmanuel Iheanacho stressed that the women are worthy and deserved to be giving the ample opportunity and equal rights.
Highpoints of the event was the presentation of awards of excellence to distinguished Nigerians in recognition for their outstanding contributions towards the advancement of women in Imo state, plus the distribution of bags of rice to women of the three zones in Ideato.
