Workers of Imo Transport Corporation (ITC), Owerri, are furious over alleged deductions on their monthly salaries.
This has compelled staffers of the corporation to be at loggerheads with the firm’s consultancy agency, Ginikana.
Ginikana has been having a running battle with staffers of the corporation for a long period, bordering on a wide range of issues. The relationship has deteriorated from bad to worse.
One of the workers who spoke to Trumpeta on condition of anonymity, said the deductions were carried out without their consent and approval, adding that those on level 6 lost as much as N7,000 through such deductions.
Those on other levels allegedly suffered similar fate as they complained bitterly over the management consultancy action.
Some of the workers, who went berserk over the situation, were said to have mobilized to launch a fresh onslaught on the consultancy firm leader, Emeka Duru to resent the deductions, who tactically shied away from the premises of the corporation.
Some fierce looking policemen were later sighted at the entrance gate of the corporation on Tuesday to provide security and possible wade off any protest or resentment from the workers.
After police protection which lasted for few days, the workers regrouped and were accused of unleashing attack on an aide of the General Manager, Emeka Duru, an act which also prompted the police to intervene and compelled workers to scamper for safety.
When Trumpeta contacted Emeka Duru by 11.02 am, yesterday, he refused to pick his call, but a source close to him said it is only those opposed to his efforts to transform the corporation for good that are spreading falsehood against him.
Aside ITC, there has been widespread reports that civil servants in the state are facing similar deductions from their salaries.
