That Devolution Of Power
While Nigerians are gearing up for the much talked about National Dialogue approved by the presidency, many things call to mind at this auspicious moment in the life of this nation.
That of course is the need to streamline our operations so as to get it right immediately than having regrets after all.
Therefore, what immediately calls to mind is the Devolution of Power which apparently appears to be the only left option if actually Nigerians indeed expect the masses to feel and enjoy the dividend of Democracy.
It is general belief that what Nigeria requires is true federalism where all the various federating units are fully autonomous.
This has become absolutely necessary because, the situation where the federal government is so strong and powerful to the extent of determining the survival and viability of the states is an aberration.
Perhaps this informed the same situation where the state governments determine the survival of the Local Governments. This is wrong indeed and should be condemned by all and sundry.
Suffice it to say that the supremacy of the Nigerian Constitution entails the embedment of this new twist in the constitution to give it the legal authority which it requires.
If we toe this line of progress, it therefore means that the items in the exclusive list will be decentralized so as to capture them in the concurrent list.
By so doing, the Revenue and Fiscal Allocation Committee will further review the existing allocation formula so as to push more money to the local governments and state so as to make them more viable to meet the needs of the masses.
Since Nigeria has operated on one particular system since 1966, there is very urgent need to make a shift from that system and the answer to that is Devolution of Power.
It is hoped that if the federating units are made to be more buoyant, it will go a long way in checking the excesses at the centre. This is one among the tasks before the National Dialogue as Nigerians await the outcome.
Christianity In Modern Day Church
It is no longer news that most Christians in the present day church have fallen out of the true doctrine of our lord Jesus Christ. This is seen in the worship of mammon and personalities, than the living Almighty God. A careful study of some practices in the present day church reveal that most believers are no more living in the consciousness of heaven. The bible says in the book of Matt. 6:33: But seek ye first the Kingdom of God and its righteousness, and other things shall be added unto you”. This verse of the scripture has been looked down by people, who concede that even in their own unrighteousness, they will still get rich.
It is important to state that before prosperity gets to any person in this world, he or she must be born again. Many believers today have modernized the word of God. They have also edited the bible to suit their method. No wonder the book of 1st Tim 4 stated that some believers will follow the doctrine of Satan in the last days. Some churches are following the doctrine which is offensive to heaven.
A visit to some present day churches also revealed that there is high level of worldliness existing in God’s sanctuary. Some women come to church half naked, seducing men to hell fire and causing tears in heaven.
The bible tells us that Jesus Christ is the same, today and forever more, he cannot change.
The word of God should be preached undiluted and sinners should be told of where they are going if they fail to repent. The bible says, “except yea repents, yea shall likewise perish” Jesus may come now. Give your life to the lord before it is late.
