The Archbishop of the metropolitan Archdiocese of Owerri, His Grace, AJV Obinna on Sunday 20th October, 2013 at St Paul’s Boy’s Secondary School, Chaplaincy, Federal Housing Egbu, administered the sacrament of Confirmation on more then one hundred and twenty young Catholics.
In his sermon, the cleric harped on the need for the young confirmed Catholics to be bold and dedicated in the work of God, shunning materialism that distracts their commitment in the moral teachings of Christ.
The Archbishop who used the occasion to emphasise the need for Christians to do away completely with the pegan beliefs on Osu caste, system in Igboland which fosters, hatred, segregation and wickedness of man against his fellow man. He said that every child of God by baptism is cleansed and made a true child of God hence nobody can be seen or called an outcast.
He charged the newly confirmed to be in the vanguard of fighting against such evil practice as their position in the church is very vital haven received and filled by the holy spirit.
The chaplain of the school Rev Fr Dr, Augustine Ihedimma, who in his comments thanked the Archbishop for coming to administer the sacrament on the young people called on the newly confirmed to always be good Catholic ambassadors and as the Archbishop has admonished all Catholics to say no to Osu cast system in Igbo land, they must be at the fore front of the crusade against such evil practices.
One of the confirmed, Master Chidubemuzo Ohanele was full of thanks to God for his mercy and for making them receive the sacrament. He said he and his fellow newly confirmed Catholics must adhere to the advice of the Archbishop in the crusade against evil practices.
Some of the visitors at the occasion include the Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalist, Imo state Chapter Chief Innocent Igwe and the News Editor of Trumpeta whose children were among the newly confirmed.
