Former Imo State Governor, Chief Achike Udenwa, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, erstwhile Deputy Governor of the state, Dr Douglas Acholonu were among elders and leaders of the state absent at the inauguration of Imo State Council of Elders by Governor Rochas Okorocha yesterday.
It was observed that most PDP heavyweights in the state appointed into the council were absent which implies that most PDP leaders heeded to the call of the party leadership to shun the event.
However, other elders drawn from various walks of life were in attendance.
The event which was scheduled to kick off by 10am did not begin till mid noon. The council is headed by Isreal Njemanze, while erudite scholar, Dr Aloy Ejiogu serves as 1st Vice-chairman of the committee.
Speaking while inaugurating the council, the Governor reeled out his achievements in office in two years under the Rescue Mission programme and charged members of the council to proffer advise and avail their vast reservoir of knowledge to policies of government. While he promised to enlarge the scope and agenda of the council in the near future, a term of reference was made available to the elders.
Prominent on the agenda include to work out and harmonize modalities on the forthcoming National confab in collaboration with traditional rulers in the state to drive the agricultural programme of (Iku Nkwu) initiative and other issues of serious importance to the state.
