Imo Assembly Moves Against FUTO, ALVAN, FMC Summons Management Over Tax Default

The Imo State House of Assembly has directed the Clerk/Permanent Secretary of the House to officially write to the Management and Directors of accounts of the Federal University of Technology Owerri, (FUTO), Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education and Federal Medical Centre both in Owerri to appear before the House of Assembly Committee on Internal Generated Revenue (IGR) over non-remittance of PAYE tax.
Speaking on the motion for adjournment yesterday after a two day public holiday to mark Sallah celebration, the House Committee Chairman on appropriation and IGR, Hon (Barr) Eudora Igwe enumerated the incessant defaulting of the regular PAYE by the Federal Institutions located in Imo State.
Still on the motion for adjournment, the Speaker of the House, Rt Hon Benjamin Uwajumogu directed the House committee on Abandoned Projects to tour round the Local Government Areas of the state to ascertain the state of rural roads and report to plenary on Tuesday next week for further action after which member of Mbaitoli, Hon Victor Ndunagu and Member for Ikeduru, Hon Samuel Anyanwu lamented on the poor state of roads in their areas.
Meanwhile, the House has also urged the Executive Governor of Imo State, His Excellency, Owelle Rochas Okorocha to direct the Hon Commissioner for Education and other relevant authorities to merge students and staff of Isu Girls Secondary School with Isu High School to enable the Nigeria Police to take over the Girls Secondary School for the construction of the newly Police Secondary School in Nwangele LGA. The Lawmakers also commended the current Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar for sitting a Police Secondary School in Imo which is the only one in the entire South-East of Nigeria.
The Chief sponsor of the motion, Hon Ugonna Ozurigbo thanked the Police Education Committee for resolving to site the school in Nwangele Council area adding that Isu Girls Secondary School which has 86 students 14 teachers should merge with the High school in order to pave way for formal kick off of the police secondary school in the area.
