On the 5th of October 2013, something remarkable and indelible happened in Imo state in general and in Amuzi Isu Dime na Nume of Nwangele Local Government Area in particular where a mortal practicalized God’s heart of God to his people. The mortal is a veteran journalist, media consultant, philanthropist and a politician, Chief Chyna Iwuanyanwu.
This veteran journalist defiled the conservative philosophy of “one can not give what he does not have”, as he denied himself and family the comfort of a luxurious and comfortable home/to build a multi million naira house of God for the people of Amuzi Isu, in order to alleviate the suffering of the people in trekking far distance for church activities and Sunday services.
The building project which lasted for about one year, was completed with Chyna Iwuanyanwu’s first son as co-donor in September and dedicated on the 5th of October by the primate of the Anglican Church of Nigeria Archbishop Nicholas Okoh in a high profile service that was celebrated by about five (5) Archbishops, ten (10) Bishops and numerous clergy of the Anglican communion.
In his sermon at the dedication service, the Primate advised privileged Nigeria to emulate Chief Chyna’s selfless philosophy.
The church was equipped by the donors with chairs, musical equipments, instruments, and a car for evangelism. Although the people of Amuzi were not surprised over the gesture because such action and gesture has been Chief Iwuanyanwu’s stock in trade as he has single handedly provided water (bore-holes) and electricity (transformer) to the people of Amuzi and her environs.
However, it was learnt that the church building is born out of Chief Chyna’s encounter with Jesus but the question remains how many people of his and this generation will be faithful and sincere enough to fulfill a promise made to their fellow human let alone an evincible God who will not ask about it especially where it will deprive and deny you a lot of comfort and luxury(ies).
Also in fulfillment of the said New Covenant Chief Iwuanyanwu and his entire family resolved to rededicate their lives to the service of God and humanity with the establishment of a Non governmental charity organization named after his first grand child Chizaram “Zara Foundation” (ZF) with a vision and mission to reconnect the hopeless, the sick, and the poor to the infinite love and abundant grace that is available with God by providing them with free healthcare, free education, empowerment for widows and the indigent, also reorientation for the youths, the promotion of the ideals of democracy, good governance and Christian leadership principles .
This foundation has so far embarked and completed a number of charity projects which includes test and treatment of diabetics, Blood Pressure (BP), surgery and provision of drugs and eye glasses in Nwangele Local Government Area and some satellite towns in Abaja. His home town Amuzi and Aku in Enugu state have been provided with electricity and borehole by the foundation. Just like Jesus Christ the saviour and redeemer of mankind came from the list expected place- Nazareth, so also Chyna Iwuanyanwu hails from a very poor village that has never produced a councilor or any political/government appointee.
The Encounter with God
Isaac Newton in one of his laws of motion states that “a body will continue to be in its state of rest unless it is acted upon by an external force” in the case of Chief Chyna Iwuanyanwu the external force that acted on him was a strange life treating diabetic complication that struck him in February 2005 following a pedicure cut and infection, within a space of seven days his life was going gradually and helplessly that he could see his own death around the corner.
It was at the Diff Hospital Abuja where a team of medical experts had resolved and recommended him for the theatre for the amputation of his two legs as the last option in a frantic battle to save his life. It was at that point that God the covenant keeper intervened.
In his words “That night, when all hope was lost, I had an encounter with Jesus. Not only did He assured me that I would be healed, I also entered a covenant to serve God and humanity for the rest of my life” so for him to be alive and walking on his two legs today after three major surgeries, is one of the greatest wonders of life. He was bed ridden for six months, on wheel chair for another six months and was also on clutches, for yet another six months.
According to Iwuanyanwu, it was during these life changing experience that God gave me the mandate to build a church for Him with a particular design and was strictly warned never to solicit for any financial support from any body or anywhere but must be funded and financed by the family.
He further said that God instructed him not to embark on his proposed country home project or any oversea trip until he
