Going by the situation of things in Imo tertiary institution I am not impressed with what is happening now. The recent IMSU post UTME that was conducted had many Imolites not able to see their results. During the past few days I have received countless of calls and all are saying their results was not found.
After interviewing some selected candidates wrote the IMSU post UTME. They said what they saw when they checked online were :
1. Improper Shading in OMR sheet during exam
2. Failure 2 choose IMSU as your first and 2nd Choice
3. Mismatch of information provided during the post utme registration & the shading during the exam
4. Wrong input of data/information
Going by the aforementioned. It is to note that as students who have written JAMB and they didn’t have such problems then why will most indigene fall into this trap? 95% of Non-indigenes had their result released while over 60% of indigenes didn’t have their released. The 40% indigenes who had their result released failed woefully. This was from the result posted by the Zealiance who are those incharge of dessiminating the result to the students online.
On note, other institution that conducted same post UTME as IMSU just took two days to get their result released to the student. Why must IMSU take as much as two weeks to release theirs? This can be traced as a tactical means to deny prospective applicant their right to gain admission.
It is time the Government and the university board come out and address this issue. IMSU is a state owned institution and the final say comes from the state government. The Governor has the right to sack and employ a new dean. So whatever politics this free education has resulted should be looked into. I have kept quiet trying to study how true what I have been hearing. I didn’t believe such until this recent post UTME.
Will it be wise where 2,000 Imolites gain admission under the eyes of free education and over 10,000 imolites denied admission for no tangible reason? Before this free education we have lots of Imolites gaining admission in IMSU. Even if you have a poor score in JAMB or post UTME you are likely to gain admission being an indigene of Imo state. Why should their be injustice to our people who spent so much to gain admission and the reason given for them not to merit gaining admission is not factual. Even in the North you score 50 in JAMB you are getting admission. What of South west, they have respect to the people they govern. Must Imo be different? Do we live in illusion? Should we support injustice all in the name of free education? I for one support free education but not when it means ”Robbing Peter to pay Paul”
My take on this sham being noticed for over two years is for the State Government to allow both Imolites and non Imolites to pay the appropriate school fees so legible indigenes of Imo state who apply to their state own tertiary institution can gain admission. This is because the budget set aside by the state government headed by Governor Rochas can’t carry the flux of Imo applicants in this free education scheme just being introduced. So the need for the government and the management of IMSU to use this tactics deny their indigenes to gain admission.
We call on all the authorities involved to address this. It brings bad name to our state. Imo has been known for straight forwardness. But we won’t watch some set of people under any alias to tarnish the reputation of the state. We must investigate this current sham going on in the Educational system in Imo. If the free education can’t allow eligible imolites gain admission then it should be scrap.
