A civil right activist and legal practitioner, Barr Kissinger Ikeokwu has applied to the Imo State Accountant General, seeking for the records of contracts awarded to several companies handling several monumental projects in the state.
In a letter addressed to the AG, Imo State through his lawyers, Chyma Anthony & Co, Kissinger noted that “pursuant to Section 1, 2 & 3 of the Freedom of Information Act 2011, Application for documents and further particulars for the records of the following contracts; MESSRS CONE INVESTMENTS LIMITED for the construction of proposed CRYSTAL HOTELS and AKACHI MONUMENTAL TOWERS. MESSRS ROCHE GROUP LTD for the construction of the 305 Model Primary Schools. Record of contract awarded to MESSRS ROCHE GROUP LTD for the construction of the City Model School Wetheral Road Owerri. Record of contract awarded to MESSRS GENERELIA CONSORTIUM NIFPS ICONO (SPAIN) & HORMIPRESA NIG. LTD for the construction of proposed HEARTLAND CENTER at former Ama JK Recreation Park. Record of contract awarded to MESSRS HANJIN CONSTRUCTION CO. LTD for the construction of proposed NEW OWERRI SKYCRAPPER at Area “H” New Owerri. Record of contract awarded to MESSRS NNUTOUCH GLOBAL VENTURES LIMITED for the construction of proposed NEW JUDICIARY COMPLEX at Area New Owerri”.
According to him, “the documents needed include the following: Record of bidding by the company. The Tenders Notice and associated documents. Record of all monies paid on the project till date. Payment instructions/vouchers/performance evaluation. Evidence of Payment/Account Number of the company”.
Ikeokwu further stated that “should you fail to grant the request as above, I shall proceed to seek appropriate redress in Court against you in line with Section 20 of the Freedom of Information Act 2011”.
