There are strong indications that the newly formed political party in Nigeria, known as All Progressive Congress may suffer grievous set back in Mbaitoli LGA, following the defection of about 500 members of the party to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in Ezinihitte Mbieri, Mbaitoli LGA of Imo state.
Receiving, the decampees at Amaorly last weekend, Ezinihitte Mbieri, Chairman of the party in the ward, Hon Chinedu Ekwebelem welcomed them with open arms and thanked them for taking the bull by the horn, adding that they will be given a level playing ground.
He stressed that PDP has so far proved that it has the interest of the people at heart adding that the party will take over the mantle of leadership in Imo by 2015.
Hon Ekwebelem assured the decampees that they will work together to ensure that PDP gets victory in 2015, adding that Ezinihitte Mbieri ward is the largest in the area, stressing that they have perfected all plans to challenge the opposition.
Responding, a decampee Don Goddy Irofula, who spoke on behalf of others, noted that the decision to leave APC was borne out of the fact that Governor Rochas Okorocha has failed to provide the needed development in the state, adding that PDP is a party to reckon with.
He described APC as “Abortion Peoples Congress” and that the party does not have structure to match PDP, noting that it is alien to the people of Nigeria and Imo in general.
Hon Irofula urged Imo people to desist from supporting Okorocha as he has inflicted pains on Imolites.
Those who attended the ceremony include, Hon Chinedu Ekwebelem/ Deacon Chuma Okwodu, Chief Celestine Ehirim, Chief Ngozi Orobele, among other dignitaries.
