ROCHAS UPSET WITH NDDC ..Calls For Its Scrapping

The Imo state Governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha expressed his disappointment on the activities of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in Imo state, adding that apart from the 30% oil derivation, the Commission ought to be scrapped as it has failed in its bid to provide the necessary instruments that will affect the lives of the people resident in the oil producing areas. He however added that only effective and capable hands in the management of the NDDC affairs can make the organization recognized in the region.

The Governor who disclosed this shortly after inaugurating the newly elected executive of (Traditional Rulers Of Mineral Producing Communities of Nigeria) TROMPCON at the chamber hall of the Council of Ndi-Eze last week in Owerri, assured its members that the newly appointed National Chairman will in his responsibility as the National Chairman make the state and members of TROMPCON proud.

The Governor further urged TROMPCON, the royal fathers to engage in security watch in order to reduce crime in the in their communities and further advocated for the monitoring of the NDDC through TROMPCON, adding that if the funds been provide for the NDDC projects are evenly distributed, the oil producing states/regions will derive all the essential amenities for a steady development and assured Nigeria will be better.

In his remark, the newly elected National Chairman of TROMPCON, Eze Ikegwuruka congratulated the governor for his Rescue Mission achievements, stating that he has accepted the challenges in his duty as National Chairman, adding that with support from TROMPCON, he is optimistic that better days are back here.

In his speech, Price Nosa of the NDDC representing the acting MD, CEO of the NDDC in a goodwill message titled “The Niger Delta Of Our Dream” highlighted the discovery of oil in Nigeria, its adverse effect on human beings and his environment which have lead to various agitation, and promised that the NDDC will in its capacity deliver, in its bid to attain sustainable development for the people of the region and as well improve their wellbeing, the NDDC has assured to proffer effective and efficient method to drive home the Niger Delta demand.

Earlier, Eze Ohiri who expressed delight at the event which led TROMPCON into making Imo state as their destination for this year’s convention said he regretted that the event never happened during his reign as Eze of Imo. He added that the transformation of Imo state have been making giant strides through the collaborative effort of the Ndi-Ezes in Imo state, with an improved welfare package by the Governor.

Speaking, in a brief interview, the newly elected publicity secretary Timothy Baridam of River state, stated that the association has taken a bold step in moving its affairs forward by electing younger leaders assuring that they will not fail in their commitment and effort to stop pipeline vandalization, oil theft, and bunkery in the region.

In their separate statements, His Royal Highness Oba Ayenimowa from Ondo state who spoke on behalf of all the royal highnesses from the nine oil producing states thanked the governor and the people of Imo state for their co-operation, he prayed for the newly elected executives to succeed in their administrative policies, as he advised the older traditional rulers to guide the younger leaders. Meanwhile, Sir Dr Samuel Adeoye also from Ondo state, enumerated the election process as a very transparent one, as he urged the Federal Government to do more in the development of the Niger Delta region, as he also prayed for the new executives in their strive in moving TROMPCON forward.
