Tragedy struck Mbaise land yesterday when four members of the popular and entertaining cultural dance group, called Abigbo Mbaise died in an auto crash.
The incident happened yesterday when the Abigbo Chokoneze group were on their way to Anambra State for a ceremonial outing.
Trumpeta Learnt that the award-wining Abigbo traditional music group were on their way with the Hummer bus donated to them by former Governor, Ikedi Ohakim when their rear tyre got burst. The vehicle however veered off the road and somersaulted before crashing overboard.
Four persons including the lead vocalist and composer, Ezeji Donatus Anyanwu met their untimely death in the process. Others who died in the 18-seater bus were Onyekwere Anyanwu, Sunny Nwaimo and one Bernard.
Efforts are underway to ferry back the injured ones who are currently hospitalized in Anambra after the incident.
Chokoneze town in Ezinihitte Mbaise has been in mournful mood as a result of the fatal accident. Our reporter who visited the town saw people in mournful mood bemoaning the ill-fate that befell them.
It would be recalled that the dazzling Abigbo Chokoneze which won several accolades for Mbaise Nation and Imo State won the first position among cultural music groups in the recently concluded Iriji Mbaise festival.
