Oyiga Assures On New- Look Owerri, Resumes Duties as Mayor

Chief Gibson Achonwa Njemanze (Oyiga), Wednesday, assumed duties as Mayor, Owerri zone, replacing Dr Kachi Nwoga.
Speaking to Journalists at the hand over ceremony held at Owerri Mayorial Affairs headquarters along Okigwe road, Owerri, Oyiga promised to continue the policies and programmes of his predecessor, especially those in line with the directives of His Excellency, Owelle Rochas Okorocha.
He said there is a lot to be done in the area, promising that no stone unturned will be left unturned in his quest to ensure Owerri retain it’s rightful status and beauty.
He promised that his Bureau will not relent, calling for the support of the press and the general public to ensure the mission of his office is realized.
Oyiga said his job as New Mayor of Owerri zone, also entails galvanizing support for Governor Rochas Okorocha, the All Progressive Congress (APC), urging Imolites to rally round the governor to ensure the success of his programmes and policies.
He praised Governor Rochas Okorocha for transforming the state in two years, stressing that his office is an intergral and crucial component to ensuring the success of the Governor’s programmes in Owerri zone.
Earlier, the former Owerri zone Mayor, Kachi Nwoga, gave a breakdown of his achievements in office, stating that some projects he embarked upon has been completed while some are going.
According to him, some of the projects include Aladinma water scheme which was designed to ensure effective water supply to Aladinma, Ikenegbu, Amakohia and its environs.
He said his office corroborated with other government agencies such as OCDA, ISTMA, ENTRACO, Ministry of Transport, Women Affairs, Ministry of Commerce, to carry out it’s functions geared towards making Owerri a city.
He said before his removal, his bureau had undertaken the task of ensuring that all public outlets do have public toilets.
“Places such as markets, halls, schools and churches were bent on having public toilets. We also intended to construct boulevards for horticultural purposes” he said.
He expressed optimism that chief Njemanze will deliver, as he is capable of continuing the good innovations of the Mayorial office in Owerri.
