Another round of brickbats is about to envelope Imo State Polytechnic Umuagwo, as teachers in the institution have threatened fire and brimstone over the alleged theft of N4.2m said to be proceeds realized from lecturers’ books sold to students by the management of the school.
News broke out last week that the N4.2m, being part of money realized from the sales was stolen from where it was kept at the library section of the school.
Our reporter gathered that workers of the library section were stunned middle of last week when the came to the office and realized that the huge amount kept in one of the drawers in the numerous office equipment has been taken away by unknown person(s).
An opening was created in the ceiling where it was suspected that the thieve(s) may have used to gain entrance since there was no record of breaking and entering through any of the doors and windows.
While security agencies have affected some arrests and intensified investigations to unravel the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of the N4.2m, lectures are warming up for a showdown. Most of the teachers who deposited their books to the management for sale to students under that arrangement were mostly affected. The lecturers are demanding for the payment of their monies adding that the controversy that trailed the alleged theft calls for more inquiries. Some who spoke to our reporter in the campus requested for immediate payment of the balance of their money in the book-selling arrangement adding that the whole arrangement about the missing money is a ruse meant to defraud the teachers.
