Eze Imo Cautions Cattle Rearers

 

Worried by the activities of Hausa/Fulani Cattle Rearers in most Communities inImoState, HRM Eze Samuel Agunwa Ohiri has enjoined the Leaders of Fulani Community in the State to advise their citizens on the need to be Law abiding and not to instigate actions that may led to confrontation with their host Communities.

 

HRM Eze Ohiri who is the Chairman, Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers gave this advise at the Conference Room of the Council Secretariat during a parley with the Leaders of Fulani Cattle Rearers in the State who visited him.

 

The Royal Father pointed out that it is a Social responsibility of any Government to ensure the protection of lives and properties of her citizenries through provision of adequate security.

 

He informed that the people of Ohaji/Egbema, Mbaitoli and Okigwe Local Government Areas have been complaining bitterly on the nefarious activities of Hausa Fulani normadic herdsmen as they grazed on their farmlands, destroy their agricultural products and allegedly rape some of their daughters and wives.

Eze Imo as he is popularly known noted that the accusation is capable of instigating communal crisis with the normadic herdsmen.

HRH Eze Ohiri insisted that such actions are inimical to the Government vision of boosting agricultural activities in the State.

 

He also said that the Government has henceforth warned all the ethnic groups to desist from using farm lands for grazing so as to avoid the issue of communal provocation.

 

While urging them to be Law abiding, he observed that the activities of Boko Haram, Moslem religious sect is causing undue tension in the nation and re-assured them of the willingness of the State Government in ensuring adequate protection of their lives and properties.

 

 

, Alhaji Abubakar Ozor, the Special Assistant to Governor Rochas Okorocha on Inter Party Relationship pledged the resolve of Hausa Fulani herdsmen to co-operate with the State Government in ensuring sustenance of peace and mutual relationship among the ethnic groups.

 

Alhaji Ozor also informed of their plans to hold a crucial meeting with all the stake holders in the cattle business so as to intimate them of the State Government decisions.

Also, responding, Alhaji Audu Ajara, the Sarkin Fulani inImoStatecondemned the activities of the cattle rearers attributing that to ignorant and overzealousness.

Alhaji Ajara informed that it is very easy for them to control Cattle Rearers at Obinze Cattle Market because they are known registered members.

He attributed the problem to some normadic Hausa Fulani Cattle Rearers who refused to register with them while passionately advising the State Government on the need to set up high powered monitoring committee that would addressed the issues raised.

The Sarkin Fulani commended the State Government for ensuring harmonious relationship between them and their host Communities while re-assuring of their unflinching support and co-operation to the State Government.

Among other eminent Hausa Fulani Leaders in the State who attended the meeting were Alhaji Halilu Mohammed (Secretary), Alhaji Yau Aliyu Bwala – Leader Obinze, Alhaji Yaya Bin – Leader Okigwe, Alhaji Hamza Abdullahi – Leader Ama Hausa and Alhaji Isa Abubakar, member.
