The seeming war of attrition brewing between the key players of newly registered APC in Imo state has degenerated to frivolities with Governor Rochas Okorocha attempting to delete the stamps of another APC and former Governor Chief Achike Udenwa in structures in the state.
It would be recalled that Udenwa had assured ACN stalwarts during the lowering of the party’s flag to give way for APC, that nobody would hijack the party for any reason since the leadership of the new party has not made anybody a leader. Feelers in APC camp reveal that Udenwa’s outburst may not be unconnected to Okorocha’s leadership role in APC.
However, a remarkable hall in Concorde Hotel, named after the campaign structure of Chief Achike Udenwa, when he contested for the Governorship position, called Redemption has been changed to Ariana Hall.
Udenwa is synonymous with” Redemption 98” piloted by the likes of Nze Ignatius Umunna, the former secretary to the Imo state Government.
Two prominent halls exist in the state owned Concorde Hotel. While the main hall was named after Sam Mbakwe, the first civilian Governor of the state who built the five star hotel, Udenwa’s Redemption was named after the second hall.
Recent developments in Concorde Hotel show that Udenwa’ Redemption hall has lost out while Sam Mbakwe retained its name as new management has taken over affairs of the hotel, Ariana has replaced Redemption.
Udenwa’s predecessor, Ikedi Ohakim during his era still retained that Redemption name when Rhas managed the hotel for the state government.
Indications are that the action of the state government is aimed at witch-hunting the former Governor over mutual differences on APC structure in the state.
Efforts to get any staff of Concorde to speak on the matter proved abortive as none, including management staff were ready to volunteer information.
