Death Trap in Concorde Hotel … As elevator cages customers

Despite claims by the present administration of Governor Rochas Okorocha in Imo state that the renovated Concorde Hotel, Owerri, is generating enough funds in the state commercialization policy, recent developments indicate that all is not well with the Five Star pearl of the East.

Reports reaching Imo Weekend Trumpeta Desk indicate that the money – making establishment is fasting turning to a death trap as customers experience serious difficulties with facilities at the hotel.

The electronic elevator believed to have been installed for over two decades now seems to be a major sour point in the efforts of the new management putting the hotel in proper shape.  A week ago, a customer, one Emeka from Ngor Okpala in Imo state was allegedly trapped in the elevator for more than 30 minutes before rescue came his way.  Few days after the customer suffered from the elevator problem, another guest named Dele almost suffocated in the elevator when he was trapped for more than 30 minutes.

When newsmen who witnessed the incident when Emeka was trapped went to see the hotel management board, the secretary (names withheld) not only chased them out but threatened to ban journalists from entering Concorde Hotel.  On meeting with the Chairman of the hotel, Chief Celestine Nnadumije he admitted that the elevator was faulty but said that he does not care if customers sue the hotel for damages.  The Chairman of the hotel noted that a new lift can only be put in place after the complete renovation of the hotel.
