As part of its activities heralding the birth of “New PDP in Imo state, the party ward leaders, on Saturday, received over 1,500 members of the All progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) who defected to the PDP shortly after announcement of suspension of Imo governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha by the APGA National Executive Committee (NEC).
Reports say, that the mass defection of APGA members in some LGAs of the state is coming on the heels of the recent rejection of the party led by the governor in the registration of the coalition party, All Progressives Congress (APC) as announced by the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC).
Still in the event of the mass defection of APGA members most of whom are Community Laison Officers (GLOs) in the Governor Rochas Okorocha’s Rescue Government Community Government Council (CGC) the defectors who were also re-registered with the PDP membership pledged their support to unseat the Okorocha administration for alleged insensitivity and insincerity of purpose come, 2015.
Our reporter, however, gathered that the sensitation campaign fire-works begun by the PDP frame-work in the state, is to among others, recapture the grassroots for the party ahead of the 2015 Governorship Elections, as it was informed that the “New PDP” is set in motion to rejuvenate and reinvigorate the state Executive Committee of the party for victory in 2015.
In Mbaitoli LGA, the sensitization campaign intensifies as the CLO and GLO of the Gov Okorocha’s Rescue Government Council (CGC) in Ubomiri Ward relinquished their offices at the PDP ward-chairman, Chief Ben Ubah and quickly defected to the PDP for membership of the party.
Also, in the event of reception and acceptance of the defecting APGA members to the PDP in the area, PDP Chieftain, and former commissioner in the state, Hon. Ugochukwu Nnawuihe, admonished party loyalists not to relent in their efforts to ensure that the party clinches victory in the 2015 guber election even as he drummed support for the re-election of president Goodluck Jonathan.
Facilitators of the reception of decamping APGA members in Ubomiri ward include, Hon Emma Duru, Chief Goche Irofuala, Mrs Maria Mbakwe, Chief Goche Nnadozie among others.
