Recently, the Federal Government Girls College Owerri, marked the fourtiesth anniversary of her existence with a speech and prize giving. The event showcased the organizational and execution skills of the principal Mrs PI Efobi, and a perfect team work by the staff led by the Vice principals, Mrs RIA Okereke (Alademic), Mr Agbo A (Administration) and Mrs PC Akpan (Special Duties), Parents Teachers Association (PTA) led by Mr Alford Nwagu.
In her address, The Principal maintained that the college has continued to move forward in their pursuit for academic excellence noting that the school has embarked on remedial studies for all students, especially in English language and mathematics, e-learning and e-result, compulsory purchase of textbook by students, training and retraining of teachers. These strategies she said has helped to keep both the teachers and students of FGGC on their toes toward excellence.
Some other areas the school authorities placed upmost priority include external competitions, college Information, communication Technology (ICT) education, students, welfare, student’s discipline and co-circular activities.
However, the Principal appreciated the mother ministry, Federal Ministry of Education, for all her intervention actions in the college in terms of funds, infrastructure, furniture and personnel emoluments. While highlighting the challenges of the college she called for the help/assistance of other stakeholders in the area of erosion menace, renovation of the school kitchen and dinning halls to mention a few.
Earlier in his speech, the DG Basic and Secondary Education Department, Barr. DC Uwaezuoke submitted that education is central to the actualization of President Goodluck Jonathan’s Transformation Agenda. The DG also said that FGGC Owerri has performed creditably well and is judged one of the best and unique Federal Unity colleges reckoned for excellence in many aspects of endeavours.
Barr. Uwaezuoke went further to appreciate the efforts of the principal Mrs Efobi and her entire team of academic and non academic staffers for their renewed dedication to duty and determination in molding the character of the future leaders under their care by offering quality education and morals for self-development.
One of the highlights of the event was the donation of assorted textbooks to the college by the Vice Chancellor of Federal University of Technology (FUTO) Prof Chigozie Asiabaka and his wife Dr Ihuoma.
