Following the absence of the Governor of Imo State including a representative at the Imo Political Summit which took place in Owerri, tongues have been wagging why Owelle Okorocha shunned to gathering.
Speaking to Trumpeta, one of the Chief Organizers who wished not to be mentioned said that the Governor was sent a special invitation, whose acknowledgment was sent to the organizers, but were surprised Okorocha could not attend; neither did he send a representative.
The source told Trumpeta that it was deliberate not to put the Governor’s name in the invitation card, in order not to involve Government in the Summit, and make the occasion look partisan as it was meant to cut across political party affiliations.
Trumpeta was told that despite informing the State Government of the Summit, the organizers were surprised with plots made to frustrate the political gathering by the State Government.
Trumpeta was told that Government unnecessarily became jittery over the Summit and began plotting to block all venues sought for by the organizers.
“Can you believe that our first choice venue which was Desny Hotel was scuttled by Government. Even attempt was made to stop the All Season venue until some people intervened”, the source maintained.
Meanwhile, sources said Gov Okorocha was not comfortable with Summit, because he is eyeing a second term in office, as the Presidential election ambition was simply a decoy to deceive his opponents in 2015. Therefore, he saw the Summit as a clog in wheel of his second term ambition.
Trumpeta was informed that Okorocha has directed some Okigwe and Orlu zones politicians to study a modality that will give birth to another Summit that will rubbish all that took place at the Imo Political Summit, seen by many as sponsored by Owerri Zone, making use of Okigwe and Orlu politicians.
Meanwhile, Trumpeta learnt that Gov Okorocha may use the advantage of constituting a new State Executive Council to cripple the opposition, by poaching likely opponents, to make his new Exco all-representing one with inputs from all political cells in the state.
