An ugly trend is trying to be part of the second year anniversary of the present members of the Imo State House of Assembly as the accountant in charge of the establishment has gone into hiding.
Reason for the absence of the Accounts Director, Mr G.I Ihemebiri is not far fetched. The inability to pay the workers their monthly salary has made the accounts director to a temporary exile from his office.
The workers have been agitating over unpaid salary for the month end which Ihemebiri could not explain. On Wednesday, the Personal Assistants to the honourable members of the House were spotted at the accounts office seeking to inquire reasons why they have not been paid while other government agencies and ministries have received their month end salaries.
The PA and some Assembly workers engaged the Account Staffers to a verbal war. Despite explanations from the Accounts Director, the PAs left with a note warning that their allowances must be paid.
A visit to the Accounts office of the Assembly on Thursday revealed that the Accounts Director, Ihemebiri was no where near the Assembly complex furling speculations that he may have gone into hiding to avoid the wrath of aggrieved PAs and hungry workers who joined to ask for their salary.
No explanation was offered but Trumpeta learnt that it may not be unconnected to the recent defeat of the Exco members by the IMHA during the novelty match between the duo to mark the democracy day where the state legislative won.
Efforts to speak to Ihemebiri proved abortive as his phone remained switched off.
