Fresh trouble is brewing in Imo Concorde Hotel following shocking revelations that gratuities of retired workers of the hotel will be slashed by 10%.

A source in the hotel told Trumpeta that part of the grand design is to allocate the deducted 10% to some facilitators.

The facilitators, according to sources, include government officials, some national executive members of hotel union and other influential persons.

He further revealed that the purported reduction was spearheaded by Executives of Concorde Workers Union to ensure that some government officials and National Union Executives that will facilitate the payment are settled at the end of the gesture.

The source disclosed that the Executives have continued to pretend to be working for the welfare of the entire staffers whereas they were working hard to enrich their pockets with millions of naira that would be realized from the purported 10% deduction.

He further stated that the retirees may not have anything to go home with, after 10% deduction as the expected first part of the gratuity is 25% of the total due to each retiree.

In his reaction, the Chairman of the Hotel Workers Union, Comrade Sunday Uzonwanne stated that no one has negotiated any percentage to be deducted from the entitlement, adding that his executives are only committed to ensuring that government released the funds.

He described the allegation as falsehood and blackmail aimed at tarnishing their image.

Also, one of the National Leaders of the Union, Deaconess Vero Nwaigwe who was alleged to be the brain behind the deal, maintained that the leaders of the Union had never held a meeting aimed at deducting retirees’ entitlements, adding that everyone will be issued with a cheque of their correct and complete entitlements.
