The formation of Associations within the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has been outlawed in Imo State following a resolution reached after a meeting of the State, Zonal, LGA and Ward Leaderships of the party.
In a communiqué signed by the Chairman of the Party, Chief Eze Duruiheoma (SAN), Sir George Egu, Secretary respectively, it stated that the Party is supreme and therefore above every member of the Party, no matter how highly placed and out to reaffirm its determination to ensure absolute loyalty to the party by all members at all times.
The State Executive Council, SEC, maintained that it has resolved to enforce absolute discipline within the rank and file of the party and also empowered the State Working Committee SWC and LGA Party Chairmen to invoke appropriate constitutional measures against anybody or group that flouts the “simple directive”
Imo PDP LGA Chairmen were therefore mandated to deal decisively with the “The Patriots” as well as other such organizations within the Party.
“Imo Patriots” is an organization mainly populated by members of Imo PDP, who say they are a Pressure Group, to work for the provision of dividends of democracy, and also to strengthen the PDP in Imo State. The organization is led by Dr Alex Obi and Nze I.M.O Umunnah.
Meanwhile, the party has approved the creation of additional committees, including Secretariat Development Committee, Disciplinary Committee, Welfare Committee and others.
