Imo State Government has been grossly accused of paying lip service to its much taunted free education programme in the state school system.
Apart from lack of qualified teachers in the system, there are also evidence of lack of teaching aids in majority of the schools even as Governor Rochas Okorocha has continued to point at school development as part of his achievement.
A visit to the Young Scientist College and Government Technical College all in Owerri will expose the decay and neglect in the state school system.
It is most regrettable that the school which resumed for normal studies since last year has become a ghost of itself as both the teachers, students and parents of the institution are at cross roads on whether to go forward or backward.
Most of the students of the school who spoke to our reporter on position of anonymity said that many of them operate from outside because of lack of hostel accommodations for them even as it is designed as a boarding school.
According to him, the lecturers also has no Quarters neither is their water and electricity in the school. The school library according to him is a mockery of itself as there are no books in it and even the laboratory lacks equipments for proper science teaching and learning.
Also lacking in the school is computers for its computer section, recreational facilities among many other materials necessary for effective teaching and learning.
He therefore appealed to the State Governor for a change of heart by coming to the rescue of the students with the provision of the necessary equipments in the school for it to be fully operational.
