The Governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha who was involved in a motor accident along Owerri-Orlu road, Imo State is said to have been discharged by the London Hospital where he went to seek further treatment.
Trumpeta learnt that the London Hospital gave him a clean bill of Health, after scans on his head to determine the level of injury he sustained during the accident which happened on Friday.
Meanwhile, the driver of the Mercedes Benz vehicle which collided with the Governor’s Convoy has remained a mystery, as all efforts to identify the fellow, or his whereabout still remain shrouded in secrecy.
It would be recalled that last Friday, news filtered in that the Governor of Imo State, on his way to inspect some projects in Orlu zone, was involved in a motor accident.
How the accident happened has not specifically been described, as various stories fly about of how the incident occurred.
When Mr Chinedu Offor, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy addressed the press, he only mentioned that the “Governor had a minor accident” but how it happened has remained a mystery.
This information vacuum has led many observers conjure different stories on how the accident happened. While a story has it that a man driving a vehicle rammed into the Governor’s Convoy, another story has it that it was the Convoy that ran into the opposing vehicle.
Yet again, it was said that the Governor was on the wheels driving himself, and another source said the ADC was on the wheels, with the Governor sitting by the passenger’s side when the incident occurred, thereby hitting his forehead on the vehicle’s dash-board, and sustained minor injuries which was why he was flown to overseas for further checks.
Meanwhile, what has remained a secret is the name and whereabout of the man who drove the vehicle that plunged into the Governor’s Convoy. The populace are asking whether he was alone in the car, where is he from, what is his name, and where is he kept? If in police custody, where?
These questions are germane to the incident, as the curious and anxious public are waiting to see the man who violated the Governor’s Convoy, and even hit the “Staff” car of the Imo Chief Executive.
In the lack of information on the identity of the Mercedes Benz driver, rumour mongering took over.
Some say he is a Ward Chairman of a political party in Imo, and hails from Oru East, another rumour says he is a serving Councilor in the State. All these are in the realm of Conjecture, since there are no authentic information from the authorities concerned.
Meanwhile, in the bid to unravel the circumstances surrounding the mystery driver, Trumpeta called the Imo Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO who said she just arrived office and will get back to the Newspaper.
Three calls put across the Police Commissioner rang repeatedly, without any reply. Even a text message was not replied.
But in a Press Briefing later yesterday by the Police Commissioner, he said that there was a head on collision between the Governor’s Convoy and a yellow-colour Mercedes 200 (flat booth) but the driver sustained no injuries. He added that investigation is going on the matter, and when concluded, the public would be informed of the findings. He however, did not deny or confirm if the driver is in police custody.
Commissioner for Information, Mr Chinedu Offor when contacted told Trumpeta that scan report indicates that the Governor did not sustain any internal injury and therefore has been released from the hospital. He however added that the Governor is still attending for treatment as an out patient.
On the whereabout of the Driver, he said the police is still investigating the matter.
