The former Executive Chairman of Isu Local Government Area,ImoState, Chief Uche Diogu, has been cleared by the Senate of Federal Republic of Nigeria, as the Federal Commissioner representingImoStateat the Federal Character Commission.
Diogu succeeded at last, after having faced challenges from other top members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who also forwarded names of their candidates.
Imo Trumpeta learnt that the former Governor of Imo State, Dr Ikedi Ohakim had presented the name of Barrister Jerry Egemba for the position, but faced a stiff opposition from Senator Hope Uzodinma, who produced Diogu.
While Ohakim stood his ground on Egemba, Uzodinma remained adamant on Diogu, which led both friends to clash politically, until top party wigs delved into the matter.
Imo Trumpeta learnt that Ohakim nearly had his way through Egemba until Uzodinma used the Senate to ambush him, after the Senate President, David Mark appealed to Ohakim to allow Uzodinma’s candidate, and was promised to produce a candidate for a plum position to be announced soon.
It would be recalled, that the former Governor had produced Chief Edy Onuoha as an Ambassador, and Prof Viola Onwuliri as Minister.
A source from the Uzodinma camp said both Uzodinma and Ohakim have made – up since and moved on, pointing out that both men are not only political bed fellows, but personal friends too.
Meanwhile, Chief Uche Diogu has thanked God for his mercies, and for remembering him with the latest job.
It would be recalled that Uche Diogu escaped death by the whiskers during the height of Imo Governorship battle last year.
He was a major witness in the Guber case. Therefore, he is now reaping the harvest of his labour. After war comes, sugar.
