Imo NUJ Holds First Legacy Award

The Nigerian Union Journalists (NUJ) Imo State chapter in collaboration with Wells Network Limited (WNL) held its First Legacy Award on Saturday 20th April, 20, at All Seasons Hotels, New Owerri, Imo State, where over 58 sons daughters of Imo State were officially honoured.

In his welcome address, the Chairman of Imo NUJ, Chief Innocent Igwe, stressed that the maiden NUJ Legacy Award is aimed at promoting Igbo sons and daughters who have distinguished themselves in various human activities by bringing peace and development, success and comfort living in the society.

He said “We have been working on this project which is aimed at instituting, encouraging and promoting a culture of excellence, accountability, transparency, exemplary leadership, philanthropy, servant leadership and above all, selfless service in the society. I thank you so much for coming to honour this memorable occasion”.

The Imo NUJ boss passionately pleaded with the awardees to assist the NUJ to renovate and rehabilitate the dilapidated NUJ press centre complex.

In his opening prayer at the event, Prophet Rev Uche Abba, one of the awardees, asked God to direct and give rulers sense of peace and love so that the society will know peace and comfort.

Also in his speech, the senator representing Orlu Zone in the National Assembly, Hope Uzodinma, urged journalists to expose evil rulers who are not doing well so that the country will be better for all.

Senator Uzodimma generously donated a bus and cash to the NUJ.

In their separate speeches some of the awardees, Sir Temple Ogueri Onyeukwu, Barr Peter Ezeobi, Prince Joshua Onyemauche, Hon Ndubueze Patrick, Barr E.A Obinna, Hon Chuka Ama-Nwauwa appreciated NUJ and Wells Network Limited for honouring them, advising journalists to be objective in their reportage .

The wife of Imo State Governor, Mrs. Nneoma Nkechi Okorocha, bagged “Star Legacy Recognition” award, as over 70 percent respondents voted her to the tops, while Senator Good Hope Uzodimma Clinched the “Legacy in Distinguished Leadership” award as over 85 percent respondents voted him to the tops.

The event was attended by people from all walks of life including PDP National Chairman Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, and other top dignitaries.
