Local government election in Imo State will not hold again on the 27th of April, 2013 as has already been scheduled by the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC). The shift of the election is as a result of the clash of the election date with the date of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB). “We agreed that the local government election has been postponed. A new date for the election will be announced later”, Barr Teddy Akwari, the ISEC Boss stressed.

Addressing the Executives of Conference of All Nigerian Political Parties at the ISIEC Headquarters, Owerri, the ISIEC Chairman, Barr Teddy Akwari, said the reason for inviting the Conference is to chat a way forward on how the local government election will be conducted.

Barr. Akwari stressed the need for free and fair election, charging political parties to get registered with the Commission. Also, he urged parties who are qualified for the election to conduct primary elections as to field their candidates for the election.

The ISIEC Chairman told political aspirants to go to IMSU and pick the form for IMSU/ICAPS/ISIEC Leadership training as the Commission is conducting the second batch of the programme.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chairman of the Conference of All Nigerian Political Parties (CNPP), Imo State Chapter, Elder Chinedu, thanked the ISIEC Chairman and his team for consulting them on how to conduct credible election. He told the Commission to revalidate electoral time table and create new INEC electoral wards in Imo.

In addition, the Chairman of PPN, Imo State, Mazi Elias Chukwuemeka, states that PPN candidates are ready for the election.
