Purple Krown Collag Enugu are new NNPC cup Kings
Purple Krown Collage, Enugu defeated Government Secondary School (GSS), Wuse, Abuja, by 1-0 in the final of the 15th NNPC/Shell football competition for Nigerian Secondary Schools last Sunday.
In the final which took place at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, Uzordima Emmanuel Scored the only goal of the game in the 50th minute from the penalty sport and was also adjudged the most valuable player (MVP) of the competition.
The Enugu based school aside from lifting the trophy were also rewarded with the sum of N2.5 million cash prize for sports development in their school, while each of the players received N50,000.
Also, GSS, Wuse who finished as runners-up went home with N1.4 million, while the players got N45,000.
On their way to the final, purple Krown Collage, Enugu thrashed Government Collage, Ibadan, 4-1 in the semifinal, while Government Secondary School, Wuse, qualified via a 9-8 penalty shootout win over Government Arabic Collage, Kano in the second semi-final after the full time stood at 1-1. with this historic win in the final, Purple Krown Collage also earned a place at the invitational school football competition in the united states of America, courtesy of the Nigeria School Sports Federation, NSSF.
Meanwhile, the third place game between Government Collage, Ibadan and Govt. Arabi Collage ended 3-0 in favour of the Arabic Collage.
The Gwale lads carted home N500,000 for their school ‘s sports development and N40,000 for each of the players. While the fourth placed team from Ibadan received N400,000 for their school and N35,000 for each of the players. The winning team, runners-up, third place and fourth place teams all received certificates of participation.
The closing ceremony which was witnessed by the minister of sports, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, as well as many other distinguished guests that graced the occasion had other personal gifts given out to individual players that emerged as highest goal scorer, Best goalkeeper etc.
In a concluding statement, Kudur Umar,the Public Relations Officer, NSSF, stated that “the competition will continue to be the breeding ground for talented football stars in Nigeria. Over the years, the competition has produced notable names such-as Chinedu Ogbuke, Ambrose vanzekin, and many others who have represented Nigeria in international football competitions” concluded Umar.
Kwara United halts Heartland’s Ride, team hopes to attack Gombe this Sunday
The newly rediscovered confidence in Heartland Fc was on Wednesday halted by high riding Kwara United in a week four of the ongoing Nigeria Professional Football League.
Najeem Olukokun, who made NPFL’S team of the week after week three games, netted the goal that sealed the 1-0 win for the Afonja warriors.
The striker’s goal was just enough to seal the full points for the Ilorin side in the game that took place at the Kwara State stadium in Ilorin.
In spite of Heartland head coach, Ndubuisi Nduka, bringing on Jolly Osas and Uchenna Orisakwe (Ortega), the hosts held for their second win of the season to stay unbeaten in four games.
Heartland, however lost their first in four, haven beaten US Bitam of Gabon 2-1 in a CAF confederation cup game last two weeks and gaining a 1-1 draw and a resounding 4-1 Victory against Warri Wolves and Kaduna united in 5 days before Kwara united halted the smooth ride on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the team are back to Owerri to resume training in preparation for the NPFL week 5 encounter against Gombe United this Sunday.
The game against the savannah side slated for Dan Anyiam stadium would also serve as a dress rehearsal for their second leg of the CAF confederation cup knock-out game in Gabon.
Heartland have scored 8 goals and conceded 5 in as many as 4 games domestically and continentally.
A win against Gombe will mean that Heartland would have garnered 7 points in 5 games having won two lost, two and drawn one.
The team is expected to also depart the shores of Nigeria next week Thursday to Gabon were they will take on Us Bitam.
