Embattled Sunday Mba pleased to make Eagles squad for world cup qualifier.
Super Eagle’s midfielder, Sunday Mba is pleased to have made the 24-man list for the Brazil 2014 World Cup qualifier against Kenya in Calabar, this Saturday.
Mba, a subject of an intense transfer battle between two Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), sides Rangers Int. and Warri Wolves, had risked being dropped from the national team by head coach, Stephen Keshi.
Keshi had threatened to drop the player as he had not yet resumed playing competitively despite the domestic season already in full bloom.
However, Mba has now been included in Keshi’s final squad alongside eight other stars from the NPFL and 15 overseas-based players who are all now in camp for the Kenya tie.
In a related development, all the foreign-based Super Eagles players for the encounter slated to take place at the U.J Esueni stadium, Calabar have arrived the team’s Camp in Calabar Tuesday afternoon.
Reports reaching ‘Imo Trumpeta’ Sports desk reveals that the Eagles gaffer, Keshi had to call off Tuesday morning training session because of the number of player’s in camp, while the normal training started Tuesday evening with only Victor Moses and Obafemi Martins exempted.
The players that hit the Transcorp Metropolitan Hotel Camp of the Eagles as at the time of filing this report were Mikel Obi, Victor Moses, Brown Ideye, Ogenyi Onazi, Nnandi Odnamadi, John Ogu, Kenneth Omeruo, Fegor Ogude, Michael Babatund, Austin Ejide, and Obafemi Martins who all participated in the teams training at the Abraham Ordia Sports complex inside the University of Calabar, Cross River State.
NPFL: Heartland face Wolves Scare as Tyavkase makes League debuted today.
Heartland football club of Owerri who have had a stuttering start to the new league season were they lost to debutants Nembe City will hope to come out unscattered against Warri wolves today.
The federation cup king’s will in the Nigeria Professional Football League week two games today attempt to get a modest result against the Solomon Ogbeiade led lads.
The players who have been struggling to lift their spirit after the lose to Nembe City which many sport pundits has attributed to the poor financial support the team has been getting from the government is expected to be at their best in today’s NPFL game.
Although, the Naze millionaires managed to beat their opponents in the CAF confederation cup game last Sunday, it was however very evident that the players could do with quality support and psychological boost if their sign on fees are well taking care of.
The trip to Warri will and have always been a difficult one, considering what the government of Delta State have been doing to raise the wining mentality of their team (Wolves).
Meanwhile, David Tyavkase is set to make his debut for Heartland in the NPFL, game today.
The experienced campaigner was unavailable alongside Isa Akoh when Heartland lost 1 – 2 to rookies, Nembe City on match day one in the elite class, due to registration problems.
However, the former CAF Champions League winner was brilliant when he made his debut for Heartland in the CAF Confederation Cup game against US Bitam.
Tyavkase, the most experienced player at the Owerri side, has played for EL-Kanemi Warriors, Gabros International, Eyimba and Lobi Stars.
As a two-time CAF Champions League and CAF Super Cup winner, Tyavkase is also the most successful player in Heartlands fold.
Imo FA Organizes for Match Commissioner
The Imo State Football Association has stated that it will be organizing a seminar for it’s match Commissioners and Coach’s to enable them be abreast with the latest guidelines of the game.
According to a release by the Imo FA Secretary, Mr. Benji Agu, the Seminar is slated to hold on Tuesday March 26 at Dan Anyiam stadium, Owerri.
It further stated that all match Commissioners, Intending ones and Coaches are expected to participate in the programme which is intended to further increase their knowledge on the fundamentals and latest developments of being a match commissioner and a good coach.
Benji also informed that each participant will pay the sum of five thousand naira (N 5,000) as a participation fee on or before the seminar.
It would be recalled that the football house in the state in a similar programme last year organized for it’s match commissioners had the current Imo Referee Council Chairman, Dr Sir Amos Agwamba and the former south-East referee’s coordinator Sir Uzoma P.I. deliver speeches on the ethics, duties and objectives of a good match commissioner with almost all the state match commissioners in attendance.
It is however expected that the coaches will also benefit from this years seminar especially with the nations football season gathering momentum after series of delay here and there.
