The list of contractors to execute Millennium Development Gold MDG, Projects inImoState, has pited members of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, against some top Government functionaries in the State.
The list which was released a few days ago angered APGA followers, who told Imo Trumpeta that rather than use the contract to appease some of the APGA members who worked hard for the party in the last election, instead strange names took over the list.
The aggrieved APGA members threatened to carry out a demonstration at the Government House after which if Governor Okorocha does nothing about it, they would leave the party in their numbers.
The angered contractors alleged that top government officials used the names of their cronnies and relations to corner choice contracts, leaving real APGA members empty handed.
It was even alleged that some Peoples Democratic Party PDP members were considered ahead of APGA members, which pained the agitating contractors the more.
“PDP members dominate the list of the contractors. Now, if you empower the opposition and leave APGA members, what do you expect us to do? To remain in the party?” Imo Trumpeta was asked.
However, when our Reporter visited the MDG office, the crowd there was like a market as contractors were scrambling to collect their relevant papers for their jobs.
Those who could not make the list were over – heard shouting on top of their voices threatening hell.
An anonymous source who spoke to Imo Trumpeta said the MDG contract is not an all – comers affair as only certified contractors are given such jobs, since it involves foreign donor nations, and strictly monitored.
The source disclosed that it could be true some names of contractors did not appear on the list, but could make it next time since the jobs to execute are many.
The source said there is the possibility some PDP members won the contracts, pointing out that they are also Imo citizens, since what is important is whether they will execute the jobs given to them accordingly, to the specification of the MDG.
