The Secretary to Imo State Government, SGI, Prof Anthony Gozie Anwuka yesterday opened up to media men on his current travails since he assumed office as the scribe of the Gov Rochas Okorocha government.
In an interactive session with members of the Independent Newspapers Publishers Association INPA at his office, the former Vice-chancellor of Imo State University informed the world that he was an acolyte of the former Governor, Chief Ikedi Ohakim, but was dumped midway for certain reasons.
According to the Oguta born teacher turned politician whose brother was a former coordinator of one of the Development Centres in Oguta LGA in the last dispensation, “I was indicted by the Ohakim administration because of Arthur Nzeribe’s interest. You know Ohakim was in PPA when he won election to be Governor. But when he wanted to cross-carpet to PDP, one of the conditions given to him by Nzeribe was to get me out by all means. That was why the IMSU white paper was used to work against me”
Explaining further on the issue, Anwuka who holds the traditional title of “Onowu” disclosed that though the panel on the probe of past activities of IMSU officials was going on but his alleged misdeeds were included to satisfy some powers that be who were afraid of his political might.
Giving an insight on how he worked and fought for the establishment of IMSU, Anwuka alleged that he was entitled to two terms as VC of the state owned institution but had his dream cut short when the Achike Udenwa government instead of the two tenures amended the law mid way for a five-year single tenure.
The SGI noted that he served out his tenure meritoriously by taking IMSU to greater heights as one of the best and outstanding state university in the country by not only eradicating cultism and other social vices, but by also raising the academic standard.
“I personally went after cultist at IMSU and had the record of leaving in office the sum of N780m as VC. A no mean feat no VC has achieved. By IMSU regulation I am entitled to a vehicle apart from the one I used as official vehicle. Instead of going for a Peugeot 406 valued at N4.8m, I subscribed to a bus like vehicle bought at about N3.4m, thereby saving N1m for the university. The vehicle gift is a gratia contained in the law. So how did I commit fraud to be indicted by IMSU white paper when I saved cost for the institution? The IMSU white paper report was political, no wander a court of competent jurisdiction has set it aside and House of Assembly followed suit making it irrelevant”, Anwuka added.
The SGI further informed that he is in Okorocha government to serve humanity and mankind and would not be party to any attempt by groups, or rich individuals to squander Imo resources in the name of political leaders.
Said he; “that is the difference between the Rescue government and that of the past administrations. Owelle is using Imo resources for the people. No more rich hawk will come to squander our money again. Any day they come to join the Governor; I will quietly resign and go back to the classroom. That is my stake”.
On his way of life, Anwuka summed up “I am a fulfilled man. I have paid my dues as a great citizen of this country. I cannot soil my integrity or go into sordid affairs for any reason because I have seen it all”.
In line with earlier postulations and reports by one of the authoritative print media house in Owerri, the Imo State Capital, Imo Trumpeta, the Deputy Governor of Imo State, Sir Jude Agbaso by now is parking his bag and luggages out the Government House, Owerri, as the Imo State House of Assembly has commenced impeachment proceedings against him.
After adopting a report submitted by an adhoc committee on probe of road contacts in the state led by the member representing Isiala Mbano, Simeon Iwunze, ten members comprising mainly lawmakers of APGA extraction signed the impeachment notice where the Deputy Governor was been giving till Tuesday next week for responses.
Trumpeta exclusively exposed the plot by the members to impeach when in previous editions when it informed the public that Agbaso was grilled by the House over shoddly deals concerning road contracts. The newspaper a week ago led with “plot to impeach Deputy Governor thickens” before Tuesday’s edition when it wrote, “Deputy Governor, Agbaso Going, Going …
Danger signals that the Emekuku-born brother of APGA leader, Martin Agbaso is a goner emerged armed policemen took over Assembly Complex frisking visitors and restricting movements written the premises. Trumpeta gathered that the stage was set for the killer-punch when the APGA lawmakers met behind close door for a breakfast meeting with the Governor in Government House. Though details were not made public but it was gathered that money exchanged hands for the deal which took place on the floor of the House.
