Imo Assembly as House of Vote of Confidence”
The Imo State House of Assembly, the legislative arm of the state saddled with the responsibility of making laws for state, is gradually losing its focus and concentrating more on other frivolous activities which exposes the House to the boot of the masses.
The House under the leadership of Hon Ben Uwajimogu literally is becoming an appendage at the Executive to the extent that some times, the speaker turns the spokesman of the Executive, when there is the commissioner charged with such responsibilities for the Governor and State.
The House now sits and closes on the order of the state Governor, that the masses are losing faith in their representatives.
Because of idleness, the members these days, (that is the few time the House sat) only resort passing a vote of confidence on the speaker as if they are afraid that the electorate are getting bored with the House.
Pray, why is “Vote of confidence” now a ritual in the Imo House of Assembly? Are the members sensing any thing? It was James Hardly Chase who said the guilty is always afraid. Is the Imo House afraid ? time will tell.
Imo Security Network or “kill and go?
It was during the Alhaji Shehu Shagari era, under Chief Sunday Adewusi, as the inspector – General of Police, that the word “Kill and go” sneaked into the lexicon of Nigerian politics.
Then, the police were accused of working for the then National party of Nigeria NPN, helping the party to rig elections to maintain power at the National level.
And Adewuisi’s “Kill and go” police was accused of biase and maiming of the electorate, by doing any thing and going away scort free.
The Imo Security Network, the Security outfit floated by the Imo State governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha to help enforce law and catch criminals, has been accused by many of brutality, victimization and vengeance against perceived enemies.
Not only that it was leant that most leaders of the outfit are barely educated and therefore dangerous with guns, as a simple argument could result to mayhem and chaos,
The people of Agbala, in Owerri North LGA, Ngugo in Ikeduru LGA, Amaifeke in Orlu LGA have all tested the pangs of this security outfit manned by thugs who go haywire if you dare speak to them while in action. They say they do anything and nothing will happen. Whala dey for Imo!
