The Government of Imo State has decried high rate of crime in Amala Community of Ngor Okpala L.G.A. of Imo State.
The state Deputy Governor, Sir Jude Agbaso stated this when he paid an unscheduled visit to the community.
The Deputy Governor said that his visit followed reports government had been receiving concerning the high rate of crime in the area.
He expressed dismay over sabotage of government’s efforts in securing the area by those he described as ‘disgruntled elements in the area’.
Sir Agbaso also observed that one of the factors contributing to high rate of crime in the area was the closeness of the community to the border between Imo State and Rivers State.
While promising that the Imo State Government would liaise with the appropriate authorities to have a police station in the place, the Deputy Governor also emphasized that government would do everything at its disposal to curtail the continued activities of criminals in the area.
Sir Agbaso used the opportunity to visit the Central School Amala where he expressed shock at the rate of dilapidation of infrastructures in the school. He however, assured the people of the area that the state government would make sure the pupils in the school study in conducive environment.
A community leader in the area, Chief Martin Chikwe thanked the Deputy Governor for the visit and promised that Amala Community would co-operate with all government’s efforts to help the people of the place.
