Uncertainty over the fate of the Speaker of the Imo State House Assembly, Rt Hon Ben Uwajumogu and two other members whose membership have hit the rocks is raising serious concern in the Executive arm of the state.
In this regard, a high powered meeting has been scheduled between the state Governor and some lawmakers on ways of tackling the emerging dangerous scenario.
Following the report that Speaker Uwajumogu, (Ihitte Uboma) Acho Ihim, (Okigwe) and Adaku Ihuoma (Ahiazu Mbaise) are bidding good bye to the hallowed chamber of the State Assembly over their carpet-crossing to APGA after winning a seat in the Assembly on the platform of PDP, the State Governor has called a meeting.
Our Correspondent who has been monitoring events in the House learnt that a top aide of the Governor, the Chief of Staff, allegedly sent out text messages to some lawmakers for the meeting. Though details of the meeting were not spelt out in the text message but it was however gathered that the hurriedly arranged meeting may not be unconnected with the recent development in the State Assembly where the Speaker has been unavoidably absent from the floor of the House to preside over deliberations on floor for consecutive occasions now.
The meeting according to the text message will hold at the Sam Mbakwe Banquet Hall, Government House, Owerri today or tomorrow. Imo Trumpeta learnt that most members of APGA and some PDP lawmakers who not only sympathetic to the Speaker but Rescue Mission-complaint were also extend the invitation whereas some PDP members believed to be unrepentant die-hards of the opposition party in the state were excluded.
The meeting according to one of the APGA lawmakers who pleaded anonymity disclosed that it would afford the APGA family opportunities to continue to protect Uwajumogu’s position. “Irrespective of the reports of his predicaments, we are solidly behind Uwajumogu. The meeting will be an avenue to solidify arrangements towards maintaining strong hold of the House against opposition forces”.
Ahead of the planned meeting, the State PDP is retratagizing to ensure that the outcome of Okorocha’s meeting with the state lawmakers does not put loyal members of the party in jeopardy. Party sources informed Trumpeta that PDP is poised to ensure that those who defected from the party to APGA lose their positions adding that they “cannot eat their cake and have it”.
