Nigeria Premier League Interim Management Committee on Tuesday February 12 decided to once again shift the severally postponed 2012/13 League Season. The Secretary of the NPL IMC, Tunji Babalola said that was the major decision the body took after its deliberations. “Consequently, the Nigeria Premier League new season will now start on March 9 as against the early scheduled date of February 16 while the draws will hold on Saturday, February 16 at the FIFA Goal Project, Abuja National Stadium. These were the major decision taken at the meeting”, Babalola revealed. Babalola declined further comments regarding other grey areas still hindering the smooth take off and running of the league like the title sponsorship deal, but guaranteed that the March 9 date will not suffer another postponement, among others. The NPL Interim Management Committee chaired by Nduka Irabor had initially scheduled the new league season to commence on Saturday, February 16 before the latest change after its marathon meeting in Abuja on Tuesday. The draws which failed to hold on January 12 at the conclusion of the NPL pre-season Super Four tournament in the ancient city of Kano will now hold on February 16 at the FIFA goal project inside the National Stadium in Abuja.
The continued postponement of the new league season’s kick-off has in no little way affected the clubs especially the the one’s involved in continental assignments as they have not been able to have quality and competitive games to prepare them. Kano Pillars and Enugu Rangers will this weekend be involved in continental assignments as the CAF Champions league elimination round games kick off this weekend.
Pillars will tomorrow in the ancient city of Kano take on Olympic de Bangui of Benin Republic while Rangers will on Sunday trade tackles with Sporting Principe of Sao Tome & Principe at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium Enugu.
