Revealed, How Supreme Court Judgement Delayed Imo APC LGA Primaries

 

The unsure date primaries of Imo State chapter of the All Progressive Congress, APC, will hold can be attributed to some factors that cannot be divorced from the just concluded Supreme Court Judgement of the November 11,2023 Governorship election in the state, reports Trumpeta newspapers.

People of Imo State, especially those of the APC are not certain when the primaries to elect Councillorship and Chairmanship positions of the party.

Since the initial date the primaries were expected to hold first week of Augaust 2024, but till date, the party leadership in the state is yet to authenticate a date for the exercise.

Trumpeta can reveal that even as official dates were not announced but insiders within the party had on three attempts handed out dates for the primaries which couldn’t hope.

Investigation by this newspaper has it that the delay in conducting the primaries may not be unconnected with the Supreme Court Judgement that ended the battle for who presides the affairs of Imo State as the governor.

 In the prelude to the final decision by apex court jurist, this newspaper noticed that Uzodimma partially found abode in Abuja where the judgement was delivered.

For about a month, the governor wasn’t stable in the state to probably oversee the primaries as not just the governor but  the leader.

As the leader of the APC in Imo,  it was disclosed that the he can’t be away when the primaries would be conducted.

Even when the party chairman, Hon Macdonald Kelechi Ebere assembled the aspirants in a meeting and gave last week Thursday date, it couldn’t hold because of the Supreme Court Judgement the next date.

It was learnt that following suspected pressures  from some quarters in Abuja reported to have plotted to remove Uzodimma at the final stage, the governor was said to have “shined his eyes” to consolidate his position.

Part of the strategy he utilized to keep his opponents at bay and triumphed at the end of the judgement was keeping away from Imo State and focusing attention in Abuja.

His stay in Abuja left  the party leadership in jeopardy on how to get aspirants for the party.

As at the time of this report, this newspaper further learnt that the authentic date may be out this week as Uzodimma is back to the state.
