Amawom Concerned Citizens In Diaspora Reject Youth Election, Describe Exercise As  Sham, Kangeroo Gathering

A Group of citizens of Owerri Municipal City, based outside the Ancestral abode, scattered across Europe, America and Asia, under the aegis of Amawom Concerned Citizens in Diaspora (ACCD) has described the election to elect a new Youth Leader in the community which took place recently as a sham.

The Group as described the election as a Kangeroon exercise, lacking in legality and pure conduct.

Brandishing a legal document which indicates there was a litigation before the court, over the contentious Amawom Youth President election, the Group maintained that it is assumed that nothing happened, and therefore no person should parade himself as the President of Amawom Youths, or risk jail over contempt of court.

Speaking on the matter, Princess Stella Nebo (nee Njemanze) said that what is worth doing, is what doing well, pointing out that at this time with  civilization, Amawom must do her things according to rules and regulations.

She said that any Youth election held in the community without following due process is already null and void.

A witness who spoke to the Press said that the Electoral Body was not only biase, but failed to follow the laid down rules, but use various methods to disqualify Aspirants who were the Peoples choice.

“Imagine disqualifying Okechukwu Ohale, Ejiogu, Obi Oparaku and others  with the flimsy excuse that they came late for screening, when they were even present at the venue of the screening” a source said.

Another angry Youth said that the Electoral body even refused to disclose the number of voters, or give Agents of Aspirants Stamps, which they ought to use to stamp voters, as has been the culture for years.

“This time, there was only one stamp controlled by the Electoral Body alone. And they stamped only those they want” a source said.

It was also learnt that there was police intimidation to scare away voters, as most of the Youths were lucky to have escaped from Police Bullets.

Amawom is one of the communities that make up Owerri Municipal Council.

There are Six Kindreds that make up Amawom Community.

According to another source, Umuokoro Kindred was poised to have produced the next Youth President, but violence and mayhem marred the entire exercise, including a court case instituted by Nkem Emenyeonu, which makes the election an illegality.
