Lawmakers of the Imo State House of Assembly have moved for the inclusion of Skill Acquisition and craftsmanship as a mandatory subject across all the Primary and Secondary Schools in the State.
They did not stop at that but also extended the vision towards the establishment of Skill Acquisition and craftsmanship Centre in the Tertiary institutions in Imo State.
This was revealed in the House of Assembly Bill number 5, “A Bill for a Law to provide for Skill Acquisition and Craftsmanship as mandatory course in all primary schools and secondary schools, and for the Establishment of Skill Acquisition and Craftsmanship Centre in Tertiary Institutions in Imo State and for other related matters”.
It is chiefly sponsored by Hon Gilbert Nwosu, Member representing Oguta State Constituency.
Co- Sponsors are Honourables; Dominic Ezerioha, Samuel Otuibe, Chigozie Nwaneri, Francis Agabiga, Obinna Egu, Kennedy Ibeh and Martin Ikenna Ihezuo.
Presenting the bill at the floor of the House on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 by Hon Nwosu, it was learnt the bill after its passage would ensure that students are taught the ropes to skill acquisition as well as craft works.
It successfully passed the first reading, while it is slated for second reading on January 30, 2024.
