Ubah Agwa Autonomous Community during the Christmas erupted in joyous ecstasy as their illustrious son, Chief Chima Oscar Ukemezie lighted the entire community by providing streetlights and sponsoring not less than 20 indigent youths in the community to write the 2024 WAEC and JAMB examinations.
Ukemezie, the Chief Executive of 3Chis Real Estate and a Justice of the Peace, said his community has been left behind in developmental index, adding that to climb out of the underdevelopment dungeon his people need to acquire good education, and that he offered the opportunity for the indigent youths who are willing to acquire an education to have the opportunity to do so.
He explained that his benevolence stems from his love for his community, noting that having come from a poor background, he understands the challenges indigent families face in acquiring education.
While calling on wealthy people from his community to look back home and see how they can help to move the community forward, he added that he is not a wealthy person yet, but that love for his community cannot allow him to sit idly by and watch conditions to deteriorate.
Speaking on the importance of solar-powered streetlights, he noted that “Rural communities have always played a significant role in every nation’s development and progress. However, ensuring the well-being and safety of rural residents remains a challenge, especially when it comes to adequate lighting.
“Well-lit streets deter criminal activities, such as theft, vandalism, and physical assaults. They provide reassurance to residents, allowing them to feel secure while moving around their neighborhoods after dark. Streetlights also help to identify potential hazards, such as potholes or fallen branches, preventing accidents and injuries.
“Streetlights have a significant impact on community engagement. When there is sufficient lighting, public spaces become more inviting and accessible. Community members feel safer and are more likely to participate in recreational activities, social gatherings, and events held in public spaces during evening hours. This, in turn, fosters a sense of belonging, strengthens community bonds, and boosts overall well-being.
“Streetlights play a vital role in stimulating economic growth in rural areas. Well-lit streets create a favourable environment for local businesses to thrive, extending their operating hours and attracting more customers. Adequate lighting enhances visibility for signage, increasing brand exposure for establishments. Improved safety encourages tourists and potential investors to explore rural areas, potentially leading to business expansion and new opportunities.”
Speaking on his educational empowerment, Ukemezie said that education brings knowledge and knowledge conquers fear and ushers in development. He said: “Education is a transformative force that empowers individuals with knowledge, critical thinking skills, and confidence. By providing indigent youths with access to education, we empower them to become active participants in society. Education equips them with the ability to make informed decisions, promotes self-awareness and personal growth, and nurtures their potential to become future leaders, making positive contributions to their communities.
“Investing in the education of indigent youths strengthens communities as a whole. Educated individuals are more likely to make positive contributions, become active citizens, and drive community development. As these individuals acquire knowledge and skills, they can serve as catalysts for change, addressing societal challenges and leading initiatives that uplift their communities. Education fosters a sense of unity, social cohesion, and collective progress.
“By helping indigent youths access education, we create a ripple effect that extends beyond individual lives. As these young individuals graduate and enter the workforce, they become role models and sources of inspiration for future generations. By breaking barriers and achieving success through education, they demonstrate the transformative power it holds, encouraging others to follow in their footsteps. This creates a positive cycle of empowerment and uplifting others in need.”
Ukemezie’s benevolence has attracted commendations from his community. In a heart-felt message of gratitude, the President General of Ubah Agwa Autonomous Community, Comrade Uzoma Zimiro Kecy, the community prayed God Almighty to continue to bless their benefactor.
He said: “Chief Amb. Chima Oscar Ukamezie (JP) is a rare gen and a good example. Lately, he empowered young youths for WAEC and JAMB. This is called human capital development to encourage our youths to pursue their dreams and have a great future. He said we can’t continue to expect everything from government, that we can begin to work for ourselves with the little we have. This is a huge sacrifice from Chief Ochiagha, and God will surely release to him uncountable blessings and push him into a high position.”
Speaking on the streetlights, the President General added: “Rural communities often face challenges when it comes to emergency services. Limited lighting obstructs the rapid response of medical and emergency personnel during critical situations. Installing streetlights in these areas ensures that emergency vehicles can navigate the terrain quickly and efficiently. Improved visibility facilitates emergency services’ ability to locate addresses, reducing response times, and potentially saving lives.
“Providing streetlights for rural communities is more than just illuminating the darkness. It is a significant investment in safety, community engagement, economic growth, education, and efficient emergency services. By prioritizing the installation of streetlights, governments and communities can create more vibrant, secure, and inclusive rural areas. It is time to pave the way for a brighter future for all, regardless of location, and Ukemezie’s benevolence serves as a good example for others to follow.”
