The Imo State House of Assembly tribunal sitting in Nasarawa yesterday 25th September, granted the relief sort by the Labour Party candidate for Obowo State Assembly in the recently concluded 2023 general elections.

Princes Nkechi Anyanwu-Mbachu of the Labour Party had approached the tribunal after the election, citing series of irregularities while urging the court to declare her winner.

In the ruling, the court unanimously urged the independent National electoral commission to, without delay, withdrew the certificate of return erroneously presented to the APC candidate Hon. Kennedy Ibeh, and issue same to the Labour Party candidate, Princess Nkechi Anyanwu-Mbachu.

The court further noted that INEC erred by declaring the former Speaker as the winner of the election, as facts presented before them shows that the Labour Party candidate got the highest no of votes in the election and should have been declared winner.

The ruling has however generated reactions as pundits applaud the judiciary for being firm and upright in their decision, stressing that it is a clear fact that the people of Obowo massively voted for Princes Nkechi Anyanwu Mbachi, as anything contrary to that would amount to stealing of the People’s mandate.

Addressing newsmen after the judgment, the Labour Party Candidate, Princess Nkechi Anyanwu-Mbachu, thanked Governor Hope Uzodinma for ensuring the independence of the judiciary and allowing a level playing ground for everyone, noting that it was the Governors commitment to equity and fairness that has propelled people oriented decisions from the tribunal.

Princes Nkechi Anyanwu -Mbachu has urged her supporters to remain calm and law abiding, while assuring them that justice shall prevail over tyranny and the people’s mandate shall be restored.

She reassured of her commitment to the development and empowerment of Obowo people, reaffirming her readiness to offer people oriented representation to the good people of Obowo.
