The People of Umuowa Community, in Ngor Okpala LGA, Imo State, the Gate-way to Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport has cried out to the Imo State Government led by Senator Hope Uzodinma to come to their rescue by fixing their Electricity Transformer as the community has not seen Electricity since January this year.
According to the information, the community which is located along Owerri/Aba Road, which leads all visitors to Imo State Airport, is embarrassingly living without electricity leaving the Umuowa Town in pitch darkness in the Night, therefore killing the Night life that bubbles at the junction and dissuading Travelers using the Airport from buying things like fruits and other commodities sold at the junction.
Sources said that the ugly situation is disturbing and painting the State in bad image that the gate-way to Sam Mbakwe Airport has no Electricity light.
A community Leader and Elder from Umuowa, Chief Cornelus Okere (Ikemba) who spoke to our Reporter said that their 500KVA Transformer got blown up and thereby crippling Night life at the Airport Gate-Way, and negatively affecting Economic activities in the Town.
Chief Okere said “Umuowa Community, which leads to Sam Mbakwe Airport has been in darkness since January this year, and it is embarrassing that Travelers will get here while going to the Airport and see the place in total darkness. This Government should come to our aid”.
He noted that thriving businesses in Area are shutting up because of the burden of fuel to power generators adding that the community has always contributed money to replace their old transformers, but they are appealing to the Government to help them this time because of the strategic location of Umuowa community to Imo State.
