The contentious issue surrounding the emergence of a new Local Government Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Ngor Okpala, has been finally resolved, as the party has elected a new chairman in the person of Sir Emeka Chidi Amajirionwu.
Amajirionwu emerged chairman after an election conducted by the party in the premises of the Apex Leader of Ngor Okpala PDP, Prof Jude Njoku, held in Obiangwu.
Amajirionwu replaces Chief Morrison Njoku, who left the party for All Progressive Congress, APC, some months ago.
In the election presided over by the Imo PDP State Assistant Auditor, Chief Cornelius Okere, Fourty three (43) Delegates comprised of Former National Officer, State Officer, former Party LGA Chairman, Leaders, LGA Officers, Ward Chairmen and Vice took part in the exercise.
Following the constitution of the party, which said that vacant positions must be filled from the zone or Area of the former officer, for completion by that zone or area until next congress, Ngor Okpala PDP asked Ward 1, where former Chairman, Morrison Njoku came from to nominate Aspirants(s).
Elder Nicholas Ndukwu from Ward 1, nominated Sir Emeka Chidi Amajirionwu.
The Nomination was supported by Elder Emmanuel Onyeka also from Ward 1.
However, Dr Tobechi Chigbu from Ward1 presented himself for election.
Both Amajirionwu and Chigbu addressed the Delegates on what they have for the party if elected Chairman.
A secret Ballot election was held, with both Aspirants voting, and witnessing the process.
Prof Jude Njoku and Chief Cornelius Okere abstained themselves from voting, therefore leaving (41) Fourty one voters to participate in the keenly contested exercise.
In the end, Emeka Amajirionwu polled 23 votes, and Dr Chigbu scored (18)Eighteen votes.
Dr Chigbu accepted the result in good faith, and promised to continue to support the party in all capacities when called upon.
Prince Macdonald Enwere from Ward 8, emerged Unopposed with 43 votes, as the State Assistant Secretary of the Party which was vacated by a Ward 8 member who defected to APC.
Enwere was nominated by Hon Solomon Anokam, and supported by Ibe Chidinma. All from Ward 8.
In his acceptance speech, Amajirionwu promised to carry every party member along and appealed to all warring party members to sheath their swords.
The PDP there and then passed a Vote of Confidence on the Apex Leader, Prof Jude Njoku, and vowed to work and deliver the party’s Governorship candidate in the November 11, 2023 election, Senator Samuel Anyanwu (Sam Daddy).
Present at the meeting include Prof Jude Njoku Apex Leader, former National Officer, Hon Chief Henry Ekpe, State Assistant Auditor, Chief Cornelius Okere, former LGA Chairman, Chief John Eke, Dr Austin Agunwa, Chief Chigozie Okereke, Hon Chima Okereafor, Okere Osinachi (PDP New Media), Anthony Nwanna, Nze Uche Nwaimo, Hon Justice Ezeonye, Rtrd Supo John Onwuliri, Prince Mac Donald Enwere, Engr Okey Nwauzoma, Bar Kingsley Nzemachi etc.
LGA Officers present include Hon Emma Okoroafor (Maxcot) Treasurer, Hon (Mrs) Josephine Obilor (Organizing Sec), Hon Ali Joe Nkwocha (Auditor), Okere Chinonso (Financial Sec) Mrs Ibe Chidinma (Woman Leader), Hon Ifeanyi Nwaiwu (Sec), Bar Mrs Chinyere Iwunna (Legal Adviser), Mrs Prisca Charles (Asst Publicity Sec) Martin Nkwocha (Ex Officio) Eke Charles (Ex-Officio), Patrick Chima (Ex- Officio), Mrs Gladys Echekwu (Ex-Officio).
Ward Chairmen and Vice Present were Onyekachi Onyebuchi, Anyanwu Noberth, Anthony Ebenezer, Solomon, Justice Ezeonye, Innocent Oparaocha, Moses Iheduba etc.
Members expressed satisfaction that will the latest development where the party followed the zoning formula as stipulated by the PDP constitution to fill the vacant positions, the party is now poised to face the Governorship election project, and therefore needs no more distractions.
