– AS ORLU STUDY CENTRE HOLDS MATRIC.
Staff of Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe have renewed and sustained their resolve to press the good image of the college.
The Provost of the college, Dr Mrs Clara Obiagwu disclosed this in her address on the occasion of the 9th Matriculation ceremony for Orlu Study centre held at Township comprehensive secondary school, Amaifeke, Orlu.
Dr (Mrs) Obiagwu noted that the college has all it takes to give students the best in teacher education, adding that it has committed and highly qualified lecturers who are always willing to help the students.
She recalled what the National Policy on Education (2004) states about teaching profession as “Since no education system may rise above the quality of its teachers, teacher education shall continue to be given major emphasis in all education planning and development”.
The provost remarked that the institutions programme has received full accreditation by the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), describing the college as one of the best inNigeria.
She charged the matriculating students to live up to the expectations of the matriculation vow, be obedient to the college’s rules and regulations, be regular in attending lectures and diligent in assignments and academic pursuit.
Dr Mrs Obiagwu charged parents to always send their children to government schools, pointing out that private schools do not give good educational foundation and think that it is great achievement to give pupils training that is above their level of reasoning revealing that sometimes, they are managed by unqualified personnel.
In his speech, the co-ordinator ofNwaforOrizuCollegeof education, Nsugbe, Orlu study centre, Sir Teddy Ononogbo, thanked the Provost for her regular visit to the centre, adding that the successful matriculation was as a result of the unique managerial abilities.
Sir Teddy explained that the law number of students in the education department was due to policy change initiative of the NCCE, which decided to make education a double major with no teaching subjects.
The co-ordinator remarked that the college does not run sandwhich programmes and each student offers 17 courses in one semester as well as has 57 lectures with M.A, Phd and organized study programmes and unions.
He appealed to highly placed individuals and businessmen to create education support services for schools to encourage government in its free and quality education in the state.
