Imo State House of Assembly has gotten new Deputy Clerks in the persons of Mr. Augustine Okubuike and Mrs. Rosemary Ukaegbu.
The two are of Grade Level 15.
While Mr. Okubuike will serve as Deputy Clerk Legislative, Mrs. Ukaegbu is for Publications.
Their appointments came at the floor of the House on May 4, 2023, through a motion moved by the Chief Whip and member representing Oru East State Constituency, Hon. Chigozie Nwaneri.
Co-sponsors of the motion were Honorables; Amara Iwuanyanwu, Paul Emeziem, and Kanayo Onyemaechi.
Nwaneri in his presentation pointed out that the Imo Assembly has been without a Deputy Clerk since 2019 which has created a vacuum in their respective departments and in Assembly bureaucracy.
He posited that the qualifications for a position of Deputy Clerk were clearly stated in Section 16 of Imo State House of Assembly Service Commission Law No. 21 of 2018.
“Noting that two persons from the relevant Departments as stated in the said Law No. 21 of 2018 are now eligible to be appointed Deputy Clerks, being staff under Imo State House of Assembly Service and having attained Grade Level 15 due to the recent promotions approved by His Excellency, Dist. Sen. Hope Uzodinma and such appointments will reduce work load in the Clerk’s office while consequently enhancing service delivery in the House bureaucracy.
It was therefore resolved as follows;
“That Mr. Augustine Okubuike, Head of Legislative Department and the Deputy Director (GL.15), in the Legislative Department be appointed Deputy Clerk, Legislative; and that Mrs. Rosemary Ukaegbu, Head of Publication Department and Deputy Director (GL. 15) be appointed Deputy Clerk, Publications.
The House led by the Speaker, Rt. Hon Emeka Nduka also resolved that the Chairman of Imo State House of Assembly Service Commission be officially notified by the Clerk to take further necessary action in line with the provisions of Law No. 21 of 2018 to implement the decision of the House.
