The conduct of leaders and members of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Imo State chapter during the conduct of the just concluded Presidential/National Assembly elections in the State has left a sour taste in the mind of Governor Hope Uzodinma.
Despite gaining two Senate Seats of the three Senatorial zones of the State and three of the seven Reps position declared so far, APC had a dismal outing judging from the Presidential result.
In the result released by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, after voting, Senator Bola Tinubu, the Party’s flagbearer garnered not more than 60,000 votes, a far cry from the votes of Labour Party, Peter Obi who won in the State. The implication remains that Tinubu couldn’t get 25% of the votes in Imo.
Trumpeta learnt that Uzodinma who may have been irked by the results and armed with field reports of the approaches of his party men and women is not comfortable over the issue.
This newspaper was informed that the discomfort on the part of the governor manifested on Sunday during church service in Government House, chapel, Owerri where he expressed disgust over the attitude of his members that failed to do the needful on Election Day.
This newspaper had in one of its earlier reports this week revealed about the indifference attitude of some of the party leaders entrusted with necessary logistics to deliver their respective areas but said to have failed.
Speaking during the service, Uzodinma said that it is unfair for party leaders entrusted with the mandate of the APC to deliver to fail when it mattered most to the party. He called for a change of heart from all to ensure victory.
Meanwhile, Trumpeta further gathered that judging from what transpired in the February 25, election where some leaders showed indifference attitude in delivering their areas for APC, there is fear in the party’s fold that leaders may also sabotage the party in the coming House of Assembly election.
The fear of saboteurs has resurrected fresh meetings of the APC members at State, LGA and Ward levels to not only review the last election but also thinker way forward for the March 18th, 2023 election.
Apart from the meetings, Trumpeta was also told that in a bid to forstall further acts of sabotage, the governor convened a meeting of the party leadership with all LGA, Ward chairmen and secretaries in the State in Govt House.
The meeting according to sources is addressed issues related to acts suspected to be sabotage by the leaders and other challenges facing the party ahead House of Assembly election.
