.Orji Uzor Kalu Poses Threat As Lobby Begins
In line with earlier permutations that his return to senate would enhance opportunity to emerge number one lawmaker in the upper legislative chamber of the National Assembly, Trumpeta can reveal that Senator-elect for Imo West Senatorial District, Senator Osita Izunaso has bright chances of emerging the next Senate President.
Izunaso, who is on a second term move to the Red Chamber on Saturday 25th February, 2023, defeated other rivals to be declared winner of Imo West Senatorial District, otherwise known as Orlu zone.
According to details, chances of Izunaso heading the 10th Assembly is bright as indices show that he may likely get it if earlier permutations work out.
In view of his background as a ranking Senator having tasted life in the upper chamber 2007 to 2011, Izunaso is returning to make a bold statement.
Before now, especially during the political campaigns, the watch word of Izunaso followers had been that a vote for the Ohakpu-born politician would guarantee him the top shot in Senate.
Going by latest development, the door has opened for him to be elected as Senate President when hostilities for who becomes the President officer opens for the 10th Senate.
Based on the fact that the President is a Yoruba man from South West and his vice an Hausa from North East, expectations are high that an Igbo man from the South East will be the Senate President.
Among those who have been declared winners of the Senate contest from the South East and part of the ruling APC is Osita Izunaso. Of the 89 Seats declared so far, APC is leading with 49 while PDP, NNPP, Labour Party, YPP and APGA trail behind.
The contest is open between Izunaso and Orji Uzor Kalu, a former governor of Abia State who is also a ranking member of the Senate.
Should the South East be entitled to the Senate President, the lot may fall on the side of Izunaso, who, it was learnt was tipped for the position before the election.
The only obstacle on the way of Izunaso is Orji, a Chief Whip of the Senate at the moment.
